Autopsy and Toxicology Reports - Tuesday, October 09, 2007

We finally have all of the reports concerning Wade's death.  The official cause of death is called Methylphenidate toxicity.  This is a medicine we normally call Ritalin and that my brother was prescibed to help him with ADD, Attention Deficit Disorder.  Wade had more than the normal or therapeutic level in his blood, but also he was prescribed more than the usual amount.  With this information we are able to confirm that this was an accidental overdose of prescription medicine.

Wade Barrow Rogers, 37, of Asheville, went to be with God Friday night June 22, 2007 after an illness he had battled most of his life. He was a kind, gentle soul whose intense love of nature will be his lasting legacy. He attended Charlotte Country Day School and graduated from the North Carolina School of Science and Math and Brown University. He was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church. One of his more memorable accomplishments as a teenager was to hike the Appalachian Trail, alone, covering the rugged 2,160 mile distance in less than five months. He was founder and president of Translucent-Fleetman, a software and computer consulting firm. He loved animals and people, and strove to make the planet a better place for both.

He is survived by his mother, Harriet Barrow (Happy) Rogers, and his father, Dr. Larry Arch Cree Rogers, both of Charlotte; sisters, Dr. Louise Cree Rogers, of Charlotte, and Frances Carroll Rogers, of Atlanta; brothers, Dr. Arthur Larry Rogers II, of Macon GA, and Jonathan Duke Rogers of Raleigh; a step-mother, Betty Ammons Rogers and a step-sister, Ashley Spurlock Stiles, both of Charlotte; and Cricket, his best friend, whom he loved very much.

An outdoor memorial service is being planned to be held at Sam Knob, in Middle Prong Wilderness of Pisgah National Forest (near Brevard, NC).

In lieu of flowers, friends are invited to honor Wade with gifts to the Appalachian Trail Conservancy, P.O. Box 807, Harpers Ferry, WV 25425 (or contact membership@appalachiantrail.org) or the NC School of Science and Math, P.O. Box 2418, 1219 Broad St., Durham, NC 27715. Morris Funeral Home, Asheville, NC is assisting the family.
